Sulim Yamadaev's relatives assert that he is alive, Dubai police - that he is dead

Relatives of Sulim Yamadaev, ex-commander of the "Vostok" special-purpose battalion under the GRU (Main Intelligence Directorate of the Russian General Staff), who was attempted on on March 28 in Dubai, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, insist that he is alive. The city police insist that he is dead and are ready to give his body out to relatives.

One of Yamadaev's close relatives asserts that he is still alive, although in an extremely grave condition. "We're in constant contact with Isa (Sulim Yamadaev's younger brother who is in Dubai now, - note of the "Caucasian Knot"), and he confirms that Sulim is alive, although still in a grave condition," a source said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

General-Lieutenant Dakhi Haflyan Tamim, head of Dubai police, has refuted the information that Sulim Yamadaev is in hospital and confirmed his death after the attempt on March 28. The police have also reported that Sulim Yamadaev's body was given out to his brother on March 30.

According to the General's story, now the police interrogate a Russian citizen, whose name is not disclosed, as the ITAR-TASS reports. Inspectors tend to think that the murder was customized, which is confirmed by the fact that Yamadaev had been shadowed by unidentified persons.

Aslambek Apaev, expert of the Moscow Helsinki Group for Northern Caucasus, believes that Yamadaev, most likely, is alive, and information about his death was disseminated deliberately to conceal his transportation to a safe place.

Meanwhile, the Chechen authorities have already reacted to the message of Yamadaev's death. "We hope that the law enforcement bodies of the United Arab Emirates will conduct a careful inquiry and name those involved in Yamadaev's murder. Their Chechen counterparts and the administration of the region are ready to render all the necessary help," said Alvi Karimov, head of the information-analytical department under Chechen president and government.

One of the websites of Chechen separatists has reported, in its turn, that President Kadyrov's supporters met the news of Yamadaev's death with intensive celebratory shooting in air.
