European Court satisfies claims of three Armenian citizens

Today, on January 14, the European Court on Human Rights has passed a decision to satisfy claims of Zhora Sapeyan, Sarkis Amiryan and Maxim Gasparyan. The Republic of Armenia shall pay three thousand euros to each claimant as compensation.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it at the press service of the Armenian National Congress.

Let us note here that all the three claimants have undergone administrative arrest in 2003 after the presidential election. Now, Sarkis Amiryan and Maxim Gasparyan are at large, while Zhora Sapeyan, a member of the oppositional party "Republic", is still in custody.

According to the message of Radio Liberty, Armenia will have to admit that the country has breached the right of its citizens to the freedom of assembly and demonstrations, fixed by Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
