Azerbaijani IRFS fundraises for families of convicted journalists

The Institute of Reporters' Freedom and Safety of (IRFS) of Azerbaijan has launched a charitable action - "Marathon" event for raising funds for the families of six convicted journalists. The action started on February 25 and will last till March 20 - Novruz holiday especially respected in Azerbaijan.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that Emin Guseinov, leader of the IRFS, said in the press conference today that the raised money will be given to the families of Ganimat and Sakit Zakhidovs (newspaper "Azadlyg"), Mushvig Guseinov (newspaper "Bizim Yol"), Einullah Fatullaev (newspaper "Real Azerbaijan"), Ali Gasanov (newspaper "Ideal") and Novruzali Mamedov (edition "Tolishi Sado").

According to Mr Guseinov, they have invited journalists, politicians, human rights activists, MPs and ordinary citizens to take part in the action.

According to his version, the campaign will be completely transparent. "At the end of the action, we'll place the sum of raised money in the press and inform the public about awarding the money to the families of imprisoned journalists," said Emin Guseinov.

"Our moral duty is to support the families of our colleagues, who now remain without breadwinners. For example, Sakit Zakhidov has 5 children and his brother Ganimat has 4. Mushvig Guseinov has two children," he has added.
