In Azerbaijan, Appeal Court rejects Mirza Sakit's early relief
Today, the Baku Appeal Court, presided by Judge Rizvan Safarov, considered the complaint of poet-satirist Mirza Sakit (Sakit Zakhidov) against the non-satisfaction of his petition on early release from custody by the Nariman District Court.
The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told at the court that the Baku Appeal Court had upheld the ruling of the first instance.
About 5 months remain till the end of Mirza Sakit's term. He was arrested on June 23, 2006, and sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment on accusations of drug storage.
