Miners who retired on pension in the town of Zverevo, Rostov region, filed law suit in the European Court on Human Rights
84 residents of Zverevo, Rostov region, sent their applications to the European Court on Human Rights. This was reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Valeri Diakonov, deputy of the Zverevo town Duma, one of the organizers of the protests by pensioner miners.
"We send documents to Strasburg by batches", said Valeri Diakonov. "Tomorrow, 33 persons more are going to send their applications to the court. All in all, 1640 persons who hold unenforced court rulings are going to apply to the Court. We claim that the article of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantees enforcement of court rulings, has been violated with regard to pensioner miners. Indeed, there have been more positive court rulings than 1640, however, many plaintiffs have died".
'According to Valeri Diakonov, one of human rights organizations from the neighboring region helped them to write the applications.
One of the disabled miners has already stated that he is prepared to burn himself, notes Diakonov. "We try to prevent extreme acts by people, but they feel hopeless. Neither the local, nor regional authorities have recently made any constructive steps in order to find a compromise", he says.
"In Rostov Region, organizer of protest action of miners-pensioners proves his rightness in court," "In Rostov Region, protesting miners complain of pressure exerted by the authorities," "Rostov Region: retired mine workers are on hunger strike."
