Two local residents detained in the West of Chechnya

Two residents of Chechnya have been detained by employees of law enforcement bodies in the foothill Achhoy-Martan District. The detainees are accused of helping participants of illegal armed formations (IAFs).

"In the villages of Samashki and Bamut of the Achhoy-Martan District of Chechnya, as a result of yesterday's operative-search actions, two helpers of IAFs were detained. In the course of preliminary interrogations, the detainees showed location of hiding places with arms and ammunition," a source in the republic's law enforcement bodies has reported today.

According to the source, the detained resident of Samashki showed a hiding place, where a grenade launcher and a sub-machine gun with cartridges were found. He is accused of buying foodstuffs and medicines for the militants from the grouping of field commander Tarkhan Gaziev, also known as Sharif Tarkhan. In the management structure of Emirate "Kavkaz" Tarkhan Gaziev was in charge of security service, named "Mukhabarat" according to the Middle-East tradition.

The second detainee, accused of complicity to militants from the grouping of certain Makhauri, has also shown a militants' hiding place located in the suburb of Bamut village. Like in the first case, militiamen found there a grenade launcher, a Kalashnikov sub-machine gun and ordnance thereto.

    Timur Idalov, an advocate from Chechnya, has been released from forced labour, since the order to enforce his sentence was revoked. The statute of limitations for the case has already expired. Idalov asked the Supreme Court (SC) to hold the judge who had sentenced him accountable.
