North Ossetia already has over 20,000 jobless persons

According to the Republic's Department for Statistics, the number of unemployed persons in North Ossetia has already exceeded 20,000, as Rimma Gutieva, chair of the Republic's trade union organization, has reported.

The trade unions of North Ossetia are highly concerned of the situation with the global economic crisis, which has already told on a number of enterprises of the Republic. According to Ms Gutieva, the salary debts have went up five-fold and make already 37 million roubles. Starting from the second half of 2008, a number of enterprises in the Republic have introduced a shortened working day and suffer from delays of salaries and reduction of social allowances.

Only in December, 342 workers were dismissed because of labour force reduction, 1799 more were transferred, on employer's initiative, to a shortened working day, 1080 workers were sent to termless leave without salaries. Almost 1500 person are planned for dismissal in December 2008 and January 2009.

Starting from January 2009, the minimum unemployment compensation will make a little more than 800 roubles per month, the maximum one - 4500 roubles.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

    A shootout took place near an office of the “Wildberries” Company in the centre of Moscow. As a result, at least one person has been killed and several others have been wounded, sources report.   • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine. Meanwhile, Ruslan Mitrofan requested the compensation in the amount of 100,000 roubles.
