In Armenia, national minorities are concerned with problems of education and culture

Representatives of the national minorities living in Armenia are most of all worried about the problems of education and culture. This was stated by Vardan Asatryan, head of the Department on National Minorities and Religions of the governmental office of Armenia.

According to Mr Asatryan, among these problems is the lack of specialists and textbooks in the mother tongue. Although in recent years some textbooks were printed, still, they are basically intended for primary forms. "As to textbooks for senior forms, they are outdated and don't fit modern requirements," said Mr Asatryan.

National minorities make about three percent of the population of Armenia. The country has a Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish, Greek, Assyrian, Yazidi and other communities.
