Ukrainian parliament closes commission investigating arms deliveries to Georgia
Today, the Deputies of the Supreme Rada, having listened to the report of the ad hoc inquiry commission of the parliament, which had been setup to investigate into deliveries of arms and military equipment to Georgia, have refused to extend its work, as it was suggested, till June 2009.
We remind you that the ad hoc commission of Ukrainian parliament headed by Valery Konovalyuk had earlier confirmed deliveries of Ukrainian arms to Georgia on the eve of warfare in South Ossetia.
The respective decision to stop the investigation was supported by 282 MPs out of 437 registered for the session. The "Interfax" reports that the Supreme Rada's statement has ruled to take the commission's report to consideration and send it to President and Prime Minister of Ukraine.
The statement also offers to deliver the materials of the commission to the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Ukraine for corresponding reaction.
Valery Konovalyuk, head of the ad hoc commission of the Supreme Rada, which conducted the investigation of arms deliveries to Georgia, does not exclude, by the results of the investigation, the impeachment to President of Ukraine Victor Yuschenko, as the "Vesti.ru" reports.
