Ingush public call authorities to return the Prigorodny District

Representatives of public organizations of Ingushetia have addressed the leaders of the Republic with an appeal to return the Prigorodny District, belonging nowadays to North Ossetia, back within administrative borders of Ingushetia.

The appeal under the slogan "Land of ancestors is sacred!" was signed by representatives of 11 NGOs of Ingushetia, including Musa Masalgov, Chairman of the Coordination Board of Ingushetian NGOs. The document is addressed to President Yunus-Bek Evkurov, chairman of government Rashid Gaisanov, chairman of the National Assembly Makhmud Sakalov, MPs and members of the government.

In the opinion of the authors of the appeal, the necessity to legislatively define the borders of Ingushetia in view of adoption of the self-rule law in Ingushetia and Chechnya puts the Republic's government before the choice of the principle. "In fact, for our nation today is the moment of truth, which defines its fate and future and which will show who we really are," runs the document.

"The historical homeland of Ingushes can in no case be a subject of trade, gambling or concessions," the authors emphasize.

Referring to the Federal Law of the Russian Federation "On Measures on Organization of Local Self-Rule in the Republic of Ingushetia and Chechen Republic" and to the Law "On Formation of the Ingush Republic within the Russian Federation" dated June 4, 1992, and adopted on the basis of the Law of the RSFSR "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Nations" dated April 26, 1991, the authors of the appeal assert that the Prigorodny District should be a part of Ingushetia.
