Piquet against Kremlin policy in North Caucasus held in Moscow

A piquet "against violence, war actions and terrorism" in North Caucasus was held yesterday night, December 4, on Pushkin Square in the center of Moscow. It was organized near the huge New Year fir-tree installed in Novopushkin park and lasted for an hour and a half, from 17.30 to 19.00.

The picketers demanded that killings, kidnappings and torture of people in North Caucasus republics should be stopped. According to their information, such actions are committed by officers of state power authorities.

In  order to stop violence of the armed underground in Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan and Kabardino-Belkaria, the anti-war movement activists recommend the authorities to stop persecution of separatists, followers of non-traditional Islam and opposition activists, to give them an opportunity to freely express their opinion and take part in free elections.

A score of people took part in the action. It was allowed by the prefecture of the Central administrative district of the capital. The protest was organized by the Anti-war Club and the Committee on Anti-war Actions.

The picketers disseminated leaflets with a short summary of combat operations and casualties in the North Caucasus republics within the last week. The summary had been prepared by the Anti-war Club and the editors of the VoineNet.ru Internet site on the basis of reports in mass media, including reports of the "Caucasian Knot".

When they ran out of the "news", the picketers started to hand out invitations to the oppositional "March of Dissidents" to be held on December 14 where they plan to come out with the motto of respect for  human rights in the Caucasus.
