In Kalmykia, communal workers stop their hunger strike

Today in the afternoon, seven workers of the Iki-Burul public utilities enterprise in Kalmykia stopped their protest action in the form of a termless hunger strike.

Earlier, Sergey Bazyrov, head of the Iki-Burul District Municipal Formation (DMF), repeatedly contacted the protesters demanding to stop the hunger strike and treating the raised issue of paying the salary indebtedness as unreasonable. Moreover, the head of the district said that the demands of the municipal workers were wrongly addressed: the indebtedness claim should go not to the district authorities, but to Leonid Darzhinov, bankruptcy manager of the Municipal Unitary Enterprise (MUE) "MPO KKh Iki-Burul RMO RK".

The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that the Iki-Burul DMF was the founder of the above municipal enterprise. This October, the enterprise was recognized bankrupt, and the bankruptcy manager was appointed.

The protesters had disagreed with Sergey Bazyrov's arguments and continued the hunger strike. Finally, the confrontation of communal workers with the district authorities ended with signing of an official document by the head of the Iki-Burul DMF and hunger-strikers.

The essence of the agreement is as follows: the workers of the MUE "MPO KKh Iki-Burul RMO RK" stop their hunger strike, and the DMF, in its turn, undertakes to pay out, before December 17, 2008, half of the incurred salary indebtedness. The second part of the debt, under the agreement, shall be repaid by district authorities till the end of the year, thus satisfying the demands of the protesters in full.
