By-elections to Georgian Parliament to be held in November

President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili signed a decree to reappoint by-elections to Parliament of Georgia and elections to Supreme Soviet of Adzharia, previously scheduled for October 4, to November 3.

We remind you that on May 21 this year Georgia held its parliamentary elections. Because of revealed violations, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Georgia cancelled the election outcomes in 13 constituencies located in different parts of Georgia. According to the totals announced by the CEC, five parties were admitted to the Parliament. 119 deputy seats in the 150-seat Parliament of Georgia were taken by the members of the party in power - the United National Movement.

According to the statement of the State Office of Georgia, the President's decision to postpone the by-elections was explained by the fact that the martial law that was introduced in August and cancelled this week made the pre-election struggle of political forces impossible, informs the "Interfax" Agency.

The "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier that international organizations have positively assessed the May elections in Georgia.
