In Azerbaijan, son of Talysh activist released in courtroom

Today, at a session of Sabail District Court of the capital of Azerbaijan, Emil Mamedov, son of Novruzali Mamedov, head of the Talysh Culture Centre, convicted for espionage in favour of Iran, was released.

Judge Rauf Ahmedov found the charges against Emil Mamedov under Article 234.1 of the Criminal Code ("Drug keeping and use") unjustified and made a decision to set him free right out of the courtroom. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told about it by Hilal Mamedov, head of the Committee in defence of Novruzali Mamedov's rights.

We remind you that Emil Mamedov was arrested this July, already after his father's arrest.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported earlier, with reference to the Committee in defence of Novruzali Mamedov's rights, that on July 16 Emil Mamedov "was kidnapped in front of his house and taken away nobody knew where."

His mother Mariam Mamedova, 70, was searching her son all the night, and only in the morning on July 17 she was telephoned from the 9th branch of the Sabail District Police Station of Baku that "small amount of drugs was found" on E. Mamedov.
