Stavropol Territorial Militia reports detention of a group of militants

Today, militiamen of the Stavropol Territory have reported detention of several militants involved in the attack on the city of Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, in 2005.

According to Igor Pogosov, head of the press service of the GUVD (Chief Department of Internal Affairs) of the Stavropol Territory, in the course of the operation, the Department's employees have also confiscated plenty of weapons, special masks, medicines, equipment, photos and printed documents of extremist character, and instruction on how to organize and commit diversions, terror acts and operations in the mountains and woods.

"Of the greatest value are the confiscated schemes of possible places chosen for committing terror acts," Mr Pogosov has noted.

"By using the operative information, our special group, as well as out colleagues from the FSB Department for the Stavropol Territory and from Kabardino-Balkaria, have blocked all the points of possible penetration and stay of the members of illegal armed formations (IAFs), other preventive actions are underway," he added.

The ITAR-TASS Agency was also informed at the press service of Stavropol GUVD that not so long ago the "Vostok" detachment of the GUVD of the Stavropol Territory had undertaken a successful operation in the city of Neftekumsk, during which three heads of the so-called "Nogay Jama'at" were killed and one more was detained.
