Musicians of the Caucasian Mineral Waters, Stavropol Territory, to commemorate Solzhenitsyn

On December 11, the Stavropol Territorial Musical College (STMC) named after V. I. Safonov, located in the city of Mineral Waters, plans to hold a number of jubilee events. This day will be the 90th birthday of the outstanding writer and public figure, Nobel Prize Winner, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation Alexander Isaevich Solzhenitsyn.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by the College Administration that the preparation is already underway for the literary-theoretical conference planned for December 6 in memory of the writer. The following presentations are being prepared: "Artistic World of the Writer", "Main Hero of 'One day of Ivan Denisovich'", "Folk Language of Heroine of the 'Matrena's Yard'".

On December 1-10, the Musical College will hold class hours and talks on the materials of Solzhenitsyn's articles "Living not on Lies", "How to Improve Russia?" Materials are already gathered to compile by December 10 a special information booth "A. I. Solzhenitsyn and Stavropol Territory", an article about Solzhenitsyn will be published in the newspaper "Vremya" (Time); teachers of the College will speak on the radio and tell about their attitude to the literary heritage of the Nobel Prize Winner.

Alexander Solzhenitsyn was buried on August 7, 2008, in the central part of the old cemetery of the Don Monastery in Moscow. His life and the history of his family are closely connected with the Stavropol Territory.

  • Court denies compensation to KBR convict for HIV infection

    The Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk has dismissed Yuri Mikhailov's lawsuit for compensation for the fact that after staying in jails in Novorossiysk and in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), he was infected with HIV and hepatitis.
