SFD power engineers draft renewable energy

Rostov-on-Don has hosted a seminar "Status and Prospects of Renewable Energy in South Federal District (SFD)". It was attended by representatives of Russian and foreign power companies, experts in power engineering and renewable energy sources (RESs).

With the aim to assess the economic efficiency of projects with use of RESs, questionnaires have been sent to SFD regions in order to get feedback on finished and prepared projects with RESs.

Sergey Nazarov, Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region, has stated that RES projects are still scanty in number, since there is no clear normative base and capital expenses are still high when building RES-based power generation facilities.

At the same time, under experts' estimates, the South of Russia possesses essential potentials of using the energy of small rivers (Kabardino-Balkaria and Krasnodar Territory), wind (Krasnodar Territory, Kalmykia) and geothermal sources (Stavropol Territory). Besides, areas with intensive agriculture have opportunity to make use of animals' manure for biogas production.
