Lavrov: Russia and Abkhazia to have transparent border

In the long term, the border between Russia and Abkhazia will be transparent, same as between EU countries, said the head of Russian MFA Sergey Lavrov, who paid a visit to Abkhazia.

"Our treaties, which we've agreed to draft, will contain a block of issues related to the freedom of travel, double citizenship and many other things, which in fact will make the border transparent, like it is now between the EU members," he said on Sunday, September 14, at the press conference on the outcomes of his meeting with President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh, the "Interfax" reports.

According to Mr Lavrov, Russia is not going to dethrone Mikhail Saakashvili's regime.

"We are not engaged in any en- or dethronement. If you remember, Mikhail Saakashvili became President not through election but by revolution, which had swept off the election outcomes. We, nevertheless, had tried to seek points in common and arrive to certain arrangements, but over and over again these arrangements had been violently tramped on by the Georgian party; and after what happened on the night of August 8, Saakashvili can never be Russia's partner again," said Sergey Lavrov.

According to RIA "Novosti", Mr Lavrov has also expressed his confidence that "the wise and talented Georgian people are quite able to decide on their destiny themselves."
