In Chechnya, suicide bomber blows up "Yug" battalion base killing people

A soldier was killed and 11 more persons were wounded in an explosion in Vedeno district centre in Chechnya. The victims were soldiers, a militiaman and a woman, occasional passer-by.

"Yesterday, at 6:20 p.m. Moscow time two persons in a UAZ car rammed through the fence of the deployment base of the battalion "Yug" (South) belonging to the Internal Troops of Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and in the territory blew their car up. As a result of the explosion, one military man died and 10 more persons, including nine militaries and one civilian person, were wounded," reported the Investigatory Department of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office of Russia for the Chechen Republic.

Besides today in the morning, a radio-operated land mine was blown up in the Shali District of Chechnya. One soldier was killed and another one contused, the Radio Liberty reported.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 28 in the vicinity of Alpatovo village, Naur District, employees of law enforcement bodies tried to detain a suspected militant. The latter rendered armed resistance and disappeared, having wounded a local resident.

On August 26, in a large forest near Bulgat-Irzu village, Nozhay-Yurt District, employees of Chechen MIA opened a skirmish with militants. The MIA asserts that one member of an illegal armed formation was killed in the collision, while there were no victims among law enforces.

On August 24, in Gekhi-Chu village, located in the submontane Urus-Martan District of Chechnya, three unknown persons opened fire at a militia sentry unit.

On August 23, in the Shali District of the Republic, a group of militants committed an armed attack on three armoured troop carrier with Russian militaries. Two senior officers of Internal Troops of Russian MIA (a lieutenant colonel and a major) were killed and two more militaries were wounded.
