Kadyrov sees no links between events in South Ossetia and Abkhazia with Chechnya

President of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov does not see any analogies between the events in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, on the one hand, and the Chechen Republic on the other.

According to Mr Kadyrov, today, his republic has passed over from the phase of revival to steady development, and it has all the prospects become one of economic leaders among Russian regions. "We need no new shocks, whatever motives can be. Residents of Chechnya, who have exercised all the 'beauties' of pseudo-sovereignty, are firm in there decision to never get back to this sort of the past," he has stated.

Let us note here that John McCain, candidate for US president, has told journalists today that in the nearest weeks he plans to hold "a serious discussion" on the topic of Chechnya's independence.

"After the illegal Russia's recognition of South Ossetia's and Abkhazia's independence, the countries of the West should think about the independence of Northern Caucasus and Chechnya, which was exposed to bloody violence from Russia. Russia accuses the West of double morals. We send these accusations back to the Kremlin and emphasize their double morals in relation to Chechnya and Northern Caucasus," the Regnum Agency quotes Mr McCain as saying.

Ramzan Kadyrov has treated this statement of the American politician as provocative, the "Interfax" reports. "Americans try drawing Chechnya by ears to these events, but this is fruitless," he has noted.
