Political scientists: Medvedev's visit to Azerbaijan gave no desirable fruits

While discussing the outcomes of the first visit to Azerbaijan of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev, many analysts and political scientists agree that the visit has failed to settle many of the problems in mutual relations of the two states.

Thus, political scientist Vafa Guluzade, when talking to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, has expressed an opinion that Medvedev's visit won't play any essential role in Azerbaijani-Russian relations, since during the visit no significant problems were seriously touched on. Mr Guluzade thinks that the disagreement of the official Baku to sell the whole volume of gas to the Russian Federation was a positive phenomenon, and he is sure that Medvedev's visits to Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan will have the same destiny.

Political scientist Hikmet Gadjizade believes that the visit of Russian leader to Azerbaijan was a significant event. However, he also thinks that Russia has failed to reach desirable results. "The Kremlin wants to buy our gas and dictate conditions in the global gas market. Baku understands it, and, surely, should not agree," the political scientist has emphasized.

In the opinion of the political scientist, Moscow is not pleased with the strengthening role of Azerbaijan in the region. In particular, Moscow is irritated with the comprehensive support that the official Baku is rendering to Tbilisi, Mr Gadjizade has concluded.
