Media leaders of North Ossetia discuss journalists' problems
Today, the city of Vladikavkaz, the capital of North Ossetia, has hosted a meeting of the leaders of Republic's mass media. During the roundtable on the topic "Role of Mass Media in North Ossetia. Problems and Prospects", the participants have discussed a number of issues, including those related to the freedom of speech, independence and efficiency of mass media in the Republic.
The organizers of the roundtable were the LDPR Party and the North-Ossetian Bureau of the Regnum News Agency. The basic aim of the roundtable was to draw public attention to media problems. During the debates, the participants of the event made a decision to set up the Public Board under the leader of North Ossetia to supervise the efficiency of critical publications in mass media.
"Under the law on mass media, all the media are equal and should be equally informed by the bodies of power and officials of all levels," said Murat Gabaraev, correspondent of the IA Regnum for North Ossetia. "However, often, in order to come to meet, say, the head of the Prigorodny District and obtain information, one needs to pass through several bureaucrats and tell everyone on what and how you are going to write. Same problems arise in the Digorskiy, Irafskiy and Alagirskiy Districts of North Ossetia. In these conditions, the work of journalists of federal news agencies and private editions is a torment."
