First lady of Azerbaijan becomes Good Will Ambassador of the Organization of the Islamic Conference

Mekhriban Alieva, wife of the President of Azerbaijan, was elected to be a Good Will Ambassador of good will of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). She was awarded a diploma on granting this title by Ekmeleddin Ikhsanoglu, Secretary General of the OIC, at the International Conference "Strengthening Women's Role in Intercultural Dialogue" held in Baku.

Mekhriban Alieva has noted in her speech that the problems of intercultural dialogue should be viewed by the eyes of women and assured the participants of the conference that she would do everything possible for bringing civilizations closer.

"We are ready to any form of cooperation aimed at strengthening the intercultural dialogue. During the latest 15 years, scientists and politicians all over the world have been searching the answer to the question: dialogue or confrontation? The problems of rooting confrontation out should be tackled by women. Where there are women - there are also sincerity, friendship, and no room for opposition," Ms Alieva said. According to the first lady of Azerbaijan, through women's efforts the mankind can self-save from the current global challenges.

The Baku conference was organized jointly by the Fund named after Geidar Aliev, UNESCO and ISESCO. The conference is attended by the first ladies of Poland, Latvia, Angola, South Africa, the spouse of the Prime Minister of Turkey, the spouse of the Governor of Texas, the spouse of the Vice-President of Argentina, and Svetlana Orlova, Vice-Speaker of the Federation Council of Russia.
