In Dagestan, Chernobyl liquidators demand housing certificates

In Makhachkala, a picket was held at the building of Dagestan government by members of the local organization of Chernobyl accident liquidators of the Buinak District, who demanded that the court ruling on issuance of housing certificates were enforced.

Earlier, representatives of the liquidators' organization of the Buinak District applied to the Court of the Sovietskiy District of Makhachkala. The Court satisfied their claims and obliged the respondent - the Government of the Republic of Dagestan, and the Ministry for Labour and Social Welfare - to issue housing certificates to the claimants. However, the court ruling dated June 10, 2007, has not been enforced so far under the motive that no money had arrived from the Russian Ministry of Finance.

The picketers were accepted by the Government of Dagestan, where the Chernobyl liquidators were assured that in the near future the issue of certificates would be settled.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported earlier that on April 26 mourning events were held in Dagestan dedicated to the 22nd anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident. The Dagestan veterans of the tragedy rallied in Makhachkala at the monument to the perished liquidators.

During these 22 years, 538 liquidators died in Dagestan. As of today, the Republic has about three thousand Chernobyl veterans, 1648 of them are invalids.
