Chechnya's Prosecutor's Office demands to establish order in Republic's corrective colonies

The Prosecutor's Office has revealed violations of the legislation on prisoners' custody conditions and brought a presentation to the local Department of the Federal Service for Punishment Enforcement with a demand to eliminate the drawbacks. A relative of one of the convicts has told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about custody conditions at Chernokozovo colony.

The relative named Alikhan said that the rooms, where inmates have meetings with their relatives, are poorly equipped, and relatives have to raise money from time to time to make repairs in the colony premises.

"My brother is serving his term at Chernokozovo under general custody mode for the fourth year already. Earlier, the rooms intended for meetings with relatives were practically empty. Everything that is now there - furniture and crockery - was bought by inmates' relatives for their money; they also raised money to have these rooms repaired," Alikhan said.

"Shower cabins are in full anti-sanitary conditions, hot water is very seldom. For many times I had meetings there with my brother, but I never saw these rooms cleaned," the interlocutor has added.
