Georgian United Opposition stands for new parliamentary elections

The United Opposition demands that the authorities of Georgia hold repeated parliamentary elections. It was declared by David Gamkrelidze at the oppositional rally held at the building of the Parliament of Georgia.

"Until the authorities fulfil our demands, we shan't move away from here, our action will now become permanent," Mr Gamkrelidze has stated.

The protest rally was acceded by Labourites and members of the Christian Democratic Movement. The leader of the Movement Georgiy Targamadze has declared to the rally that he himself and the members of his Party will stay where the people of Georgia may need.

Several thousands of supporters of the United Opposition have gathered at the building of the Parliament of Georgia. Special troops, additional police forces, water cannons and other special machinery were deployed from the side of the Rustaveli Avenue. Georgiy Khaindrava, one of the leaders of the United Opposition, has called the people to surround the building of the Parliament.

The pretext for the protest actions was the fact that the United Opposition has rejected their mandates, finding the May 21 elections to be unfair.
