Boris Gryzlov: "Situation in Chechnya is under control"

Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov has reported to Vladimir Putin that the situation in the Chechen Republic remained under control, a regional operations stuff under Russian Deputy Interior Minister functioned. During a traditional meeting of the president with the Cabinet Boris Gryzlov said "The situation in the Chechen Republic is under control; we receive information on a daily basis. The Chechen Interior Ministry operates effectively, there are disclosed common crimes.

As for an election situation in the republic, the Interior Minister said some candidates had been registered and launched their election campaigns.

Vladimir Putin drew the minister's attention to his conversation with the commander of the Interior Ministry troops. "I told him he should pay more attention to the situation in the south of Russia", underlined the head of the state.
