Activist of campaign in support of Seda Suleimanova reports being subjected to pressure

Unidentified persons tried to break into the apartment of Moscow activist Varvara Kosheleva, who filed an appeal to the Russian presidential administration in connection with the case on the disappearance of Seda Suleimanova, a native of Chechnya.

Varvara Kosheleva, an activist of the “Where is Seda?” campaign and a co-organizer of the collection of signatures under the appeal to the Russian presidential administration, faced threats, the campaign’s Telegram channel reported on May 20.

According to the activists’ report, unidentified persons tried to break into the apartment of Varvara Kosheleva on the night of May 19, but the information reporting about the incident was published later, when Varvara Kosheleva already took security measures.

“Unknown people were trying to break into my apartment. However, they quickly ran away as soon as other people entered the floor. The doors on the floor have been removed from their springs. I certainly associate all those actions with pressure on me because of my public activities. All my activities are legal, as I contact government agencies to find the missing person. The whole world wants to know where Seda Suleimanova has disappeared to, and so do I,” emphasized Varvara Kosheleva as quoted by the “Where is Seda?” Telegram channel.

The campaign organizers called the visits of unidentified people to the Varvara Kosheleva’s apartment “an alarming event.” The activists note that this is not the first time when a similar incident has happened: the first attempt by unidentified people to break into the activist’s apartment at night was made while signatures were being collected.

Varvara Kosheleva was also an active participant in the campaign in support of Seda Suleimanova back in 2024. In particular, the activist lodged an appeal to Russian State Duma member Adam Delimkhanov and received an official response on his behalf with the refusal to initiate an investigation into the case on the missing native of Chechnya.
