Activists’ houses searched in Stavropol Territory
The police conducted searches at the houses of human rights defender Georgy Legkobitov in Yessentuki and of lawyer Ekaterina Kuznetsova.
Georgy Legkobitov is engaged in the protection of specially protected natural areas and natural monuments.
According to the source’s information, a search was also conducted at the house of lawyer Ekaterina Kuznetsova. She does not respond to phone calls. In May 2024, together with Georgy Legkobitov, Ekaterina Kuznetsova succeeded in obliging a Pyatigorsk businessman through court to pay compensation of 805 million roubles for an illegal landfill.
“In April 2024, environmental activist Sergey Legkobitov, a son of Georgy Legkobitov, was sentenced to 7.5 years of imprisonment in a penal colony for allegedly acting as an intermediary in the transfer of a bribe. Sergey Legkobitov also fought against the landfill, and the businessman who organized the landfill testified against him. The family of the environmental activist called the criminal case fabricated,” the “7x7 - Horizontal Russia”* Telegram channel reports.
In August, in the Stavropol Territory, a court changed the article under which environmental activist Sergey Legkobitov was found guilty from attempted bribery to the transfer of a bribe.
Earlier, Angelina, a spouse of Sergey Legkobitov, called the case opened against her husband an ordered case.
