NCFD residents pay tribute to memory of victims of deportation of Vainakhs
Events dedicated to the anniversary of the deportation of the Vainakhs were held in Chechnya, Ingushetia, and other regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD). In addition to official rallies, local residents paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the deportation with religious and educational meetings.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that a memorial rally in memory of the victims of the deportation was organized in Ingushetia, and at a rally in Chechnya, Prime Minister of the Republic Magomed Daudov voiced a demand to return housing in the former Aukhovsky District of Dagestan to descendants of the repressed people. A memorial rally on the 81st anniversary of the Stalin era deportation of the Vainakhs was also held in the Novolaksky District of Dagestan.
Today is the hardest day for the Chechen and Ingush people, a representative of the “Memorial” Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has stated.
Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the human rights organization “Mashr”, posted an entry on his blog on the “Caucasian Knot” dedicated to the anniversary of the deportation of the Vainakhs.
“We remember the innocent people who perished in the cold steppes of Central Asia and Kazakhstan, because this is a tragedy for every family of our peoples. Our ancestors survived a tragedy that should never happen again, never, and to no one,” Magomed Mutsolgov wrote.
More than 200 residents of the Nazran District gathered in the mosque of the Ingush village of Ali-Yurt to remember and pray for the victims of the 1944 deportation. People of the older generation shared their stories that they heard from eyewitnesses of those tragic events. After the conversation, the people who gathered in the mosque prayed for the victims of the deportation.
*As reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the reason for including on March 1, 2024, the unregistered “Memorial” Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD) into the register of foreign agents was the spread of “inaccurate information aimed at creating a negative image of the Russian Federation, as well as the Russian Armed Forces.”
