ECtHR finds rights violation of Maisky resident

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has upheld the complaint lodged by Olga Olkhova, a resident of the settlement of Maisky, who was fined on charges of discrediting the Russian Army.

In 2022, the court fined Olga Olkhova by 30,000 roubles, treating her posts in a social network as discrediting the Russian Army. The Supreme Court (SC) of Kabardino-Balkaria has upheld this decision, rejecting all the defence’s motions, including the request for an expert examination.

Olkhova refused to plead guilty. According to her version, during questioning, law enforcers used to put pressure on her, after which they forced her to write an explanatory note with a confession. Olga's advocate has indicated that the account in which her post was placed did not belong to her. The court has ignored all the defence's arguments; and law enforcers failed to provide proofs of her guilt.
