Law enforcers help Elza Soltaeva, who fled Chechnya, reach shelter in Kazakhstan

With the help of the police, Elza Soltaeva, a native of Chechnya, could reach a shelter; law enforcers escorted her to the place and stopped a car with people from Chechnya who were pursuing Elza.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 5, Elza Soltaeva, who fled from domestic violence, was detained by the police in Kazakhstan. She stated that her relatives were pursuing her and she feared for her life. On the same day, the police released Soltaeva, but she is still in danger, human rights defenders assert.

Soltaeva reached a safe place and plans to apply to Kazakh authorities for the refugee status, the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law has reported.

At night on February 6, Soltaeva and Vladislav Khorev, an activist, who had helped her leave Russia, were stopped by the police again. The law enforcers also stopped a car that driving behind them with people from Chechnya who were going to take the girl home. The police advised Soltaeva and Khorev to leave Aktobe for another city for safety.
