Kadyrov promises to shoot hijab opponents dead

Those who oppose wearing hijabs are enemies of Islam, the head of Chechnya has declared, promising to shoot anyone who tells his daughter to take off her hijab dead.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Mikhail Matveev and Sergey Obukhov, Russian State Duma MPs from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF), have drafted a bill that assumes introducing fines for wearing face-hiding clothes in public places.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has stated that he is against wearing clothing that covers the face, but anyone who is against the hijab is an enemy of Islam. He made threats against opponents of wearing hijabs.

"Whoever tells my daughter to take off her hijab, I will kill him immediately, I will shoot him dead whoever he is. He is my personal enemy," Kadyrov said in a video posted in his Telegram channel.

The bill put forward by Vladislav Davankov, a Vice-Speaker of the State Duma, on banning religious clothing in schools and public places is anti-Islamic, Muftis of Northern Caucasus are sure.

Following the militants' attacks in Dagestan committed on June 23, the issue of banning religious clothing was raised in the republics of Northern Caucasus. In Dagestan, wearing niqabs was temporarily banned. The Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM or Muftiate) of Karachay-Cherkessia has also temporarily banned niqabs. The Muftiate of Kabardino-Balkaria has stated, citing the opinions of Islamic scholars, that wearing niqabs is a custom, not an obligation for Muslim women. The Main SAM of North Ossetia has recommended abandoning niqabs.
