"Meydan TV": Georgian law enforcers beat up and humiliate detained Azerbaijani

After detaining Elvin Karimov, an ethnic Azerbaijani, at a protest action in Tbilisi, ten law enforcers have beaten him up, recommending him to appeal to President Aliev for defence of human rights. Activists have gone out to the action in Karimov's support.

Most of those detained during protests in Georgia, who were visited by the Ombudsperson's employees, stated the use of excessive force during detentions. The detainees' advocates said that their clients were beaten up at isolation facilities.

Elvin Karimov said that after his detention, he was brutally beaten up by ten policemen, the "Meydan TV" has reported.

"He has wounds and bruises in his face ... As he told his advocate, during the beating he was told that he was a 'tatari'," Tozu Gyulmammadli, an Azerbaijani activist, has added.

"Tatari" is a term used to insult ethnic Azerbaijanis in Georgia.

In the Marneuli District, where ethnic Azerbaijanis live compactly, a rally was held demanding new elections in Georgia, the country's return to the path of European integration and the release of Karimov, who was arrested for eight days.

Baku officials helped the Georgian ruling party to get votes of the members of the Azerbaijani Diaspora. According to independent Azerbaijani journalists, this technology is used regularly.
