Kadyrov offers using Ukrainians POWs to protect against drone attacks
The head of Chechnya has confirmed the drone attack on the Akhmat Kadyrov regiment and proposed placing Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) on roofs of the sites that could become attack targets.
In the morning on Wednesday (December 4), an explosion was heard in Grozny; according to sources, this could have been an attempt of a drone attack on the Akhmat Kadyrov regiment.
"Today, a drone has struck the city centre. They destroyed the roof of the regiment barrack. Civilians have suffered," Ramzan Kadyrov is quoted by the "Chechnya Today" News Agency as saying.
Before that, he posted a video in his Telegram channel of his meeting with Ukrainian POWs in Grozny. He asked them if they were receiving food. "As if you had just returned from vacation," Kadyrov told them.
After that, he suggested using them to protect facilities in Chechnya. "They should be placed on roofs of the facilities which had been filmed by an American satellite. Let them guard our territories <...> They should shoot down every drone and protect our republic," Kadyrov has stated.
Un October 29, the territory of Chechnya was attacked by a drone for the first time since the start of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine: as a result of that attack, a building located in the territory of the Russian Special Forces University in Gudermes caught fire. Kadyrov said that there were victims among Ukrainian POWs; he added that they are placed "at every strategic facility in the republic." These words can be regarded as evidence of the use of Ukrainian POWs as a "human shield" and hostages, experts have noted.
Since the start of the SMO, the territories of the Rostov Region, Krasnodar Territory and other regions of the North-Caucasian and Southern Federal Districts (NCFD and SFD) have been regularly attacked by drones.
