Three residents of Stavropol Territory convicted in Bible burning case

A court sentenced two residents of the Stavropol Territory who burned the New Testament and recorded their act on camera to real terms of imprisonment. The third defendant, a minor, was sentenced to conditional imprisonment.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on May 3, three residents of Novoaleksandrovsk were detained for publicly burning the New Testament. They are suspected of insulting the feelings of believers and hooliganism. A video with apologies from the two participants in the incident was posted on the Internet by Governor Vladimir Vladimirov. The young people admitted their guilt and promised not to do anything like that again.

According to the court’s version, the defendants were guided by hooligan motives and a feeling of religious hatred. Having recorded their actions on video, the young people posted their recording in a messenger, thus “publicly insulting the religious feelings of believers.”

One of the adult participants in the burning of the New Testament was sentenced by the court to two years of imprisonment, the second was sentenced to two years and two months of imprisonment. The third defendant, a minor, was sentence of one year and ten months of conditional imprisonment.
