Journalist Zalina Marshenkulova* included into register of foreign agents

The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has recognized journalist Zalina Marshenkulova* from Kabardino-Balkaria as a foreign agent. According to the MoJ’s report, Zalina Marshenkulova* has spoken out against the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, spread fakes about the decisions of the Russian authorities, and promoted LGBT** relations.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 17, it became known that Zalina Marshenkulova* was put on the federal wanted list. The journalist lodged an appeal against her arrest in absentia in a case on justifying terrorism, but the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict on the arrest in absentia. On August 6, it became known that Zalina Marshenkulova* was put on the international wanted list.

The Russian Ministry of Justice also noted that Zalina Marshenkulova* “participated in an event of an organization recognized as undesirable in Russia” and “called for participation in fundraising for Ukraine.”

Earlier, Zalina Marshenkulova* who lives in Germany, has considered the charges against her absurd and explained the criminal proceedings against her with her political position.

**On November 30, 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation declared the movement an “extremist organization” and banned the “international public movement of LGBT people”.
