Journalist Marshenkulova put on international wanted list

Investigators have put journalist Zalina Marshenkulova from Kabardino-Balkaria, accused of justifying terrorism, on the international wanted list.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on April 17, it became known that Zalina Marshenkulova was put on the federal wanted list. The journalist lodged an appeal against her arrest in absentia in the case on justifying terrorism, but the Moscow City Court upheld the verdict on her arrest.

Sources report that a criminal case on justifying terrorism was instituted against Zalina Marshenkulova because of her statements about the death of blogger Vladlen Tatarsky, who was killed in an explosion in a cafe in Saint Petersburg on April 2, 2023. However, according to the investigators’ version, Zalina Marshenkulova posted her entries on Telegram about justifying terrorism no later than March 3, 2023, that is, a month before Vladlen Tatarsky’s death.

Zalina Marshenkulova, who lives in Germany, considers the charges brought against her absurd and associated them with her political position. Earlier, human rights defenders have noted that the criminal case against the journalist is not related to her participation in defending women’s rights in Kabardino-Balkaria.
