Volgograd lawyer Roman Melnichenko arrested for three days

The court has arrested Roman Melnichenko, a former teacher at the Volgograd State University, for three days for disobeying policemen and fined him under the article on discrediting the Russian Army.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Prosecutor's Office had accused Roman Melnichenko for spreading posts about the events in Ukraine; and university lawyers saw signs of agitation among students in his actions. On April 19, 2022, it became known that Melnichenko was fired from the university for absenteeism and immoral behaviour. On June 7, 2022, the court fined him, finding him guilty of disseminating false information.

"Melnichenko has been arrested for three days for disobeying policemen, and on the same day fined by 30,000 roubles for "discrediting the Russian Army," Ruslan Nurushev, a lawyer, has informed, noting that he found himself in the same situation in December 2022.

"Perhaps, in this way, the police are trying to rid the city of opposition-minded people on the eve of the elections," Ruslan Nurushev has suggested.

Let us remind you that on March 20, 2024, the Volgograd TV channel released the names of the people who had brought flowers to the monument to victims of political repressions in memory of Alexei Navalny, treating them as potential "saboteurs." Some of the activists shown in the report, namely, Roman Melnichenko, Ruslan Nurushev and Vladimir Telpuk, demanded that a criminal case be opened against the TV channel.
