Human rights defenders report danger for Chechen native, who escaped from her family

The family of a 19-year-old native of Chechnya, who ran away from her family because of permanent pressure and the risk of being killed, put the girl on the wanted list and found her in Moscow. The girl was taken to a police station, and members of her family gathered around the building.

“Today, when the girl left the house, she saw her father in the yard. She called the police, they took her to the police department, near which her relatives were also waiting. There it turned out that her relatives had put her on the wanted list as a minor, although the girl was 19,” the “Marem” human rights group reported.

On May 13, the girl left home. She told human rights defenders that she suffered from “everyday physical and psychological pressure” and that she “was afraid of being killed.” The girl wrote a statement that she left home of her own free will and asked not to look for her, the “Marem” human rights group reported in its Telegram channel.

The human rights defenders have expressed their fear that the girl’s relatives “want to take her to Chechnya.” “We know that girls from Chechnya most often do not return,” the message says.

The human rights defenders have reported that a lawyer has left an office to visit the girl, “but there is no certainty that he will be allowed into the police department.”
