Lawyer analyses findings of examination in journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova’s case

When commenting on the criminal prosecution of journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, advocate Timofei Shirokov has pointed out that psychological and linguistic examination has become a punitive tool and that, without clear criteria determined, investigators can easily use such examination to confirm the conclusions they need.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Nadezhda Kevorkova refused to admit guilt in justifying terrorism. The Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the journalist until July 6. The text prepared by Orkhan Djemal, the publication of which became the reason for the accusation, had not earlier been declared illegal.

The publication of any material can be considered a justification for terrorism if the law enforcement bodies pay attention to it, states advocate Timofei Shirokov.

“It doesn’t matter that the text is not recognized as extremist, it can be any text ... An expert can ‘tailor’ the conclusion that by posting such an abstract, a certain person supports some principle,” noted Timofei Shirokov. The advocate has added that the results of the examination depend on the desires of the parties in interest and not on the scientific methodology.

Nadezhda Kevorkova wrote on the Telegram channel and social network X about the unfair treatment of Gaza residents. The journalist has also been engaged in protecting human rights of Muslims, in particular Chechens.
