Residents of Nalchik summer cottage villages alarmed by CTO
Residents of Volny Aul and other villages located not far from Nalchik reported that they were awakened by submachine gun fire and explosions. Some people decided not to let their children go to school. The Investigating Department for Kabardino-Balkaria of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) launched an investigation into a criminal case on an attack on the law enforcers’ lives and illegal trafficking in firearms and explosives.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that a counterterrorist operation (CTO) was carried out in Nalchik and the Chereksky District in the morning. Law enforcers killed two suspected members of a grouping that was part of an international terrorist organization and was planning terror acts in Kabardino-Balkaria.
Svetlana, a resident of Volny Aul, said that the sounds of the battle were heard quite close. The woman suggested that militants were moving towards the village.
Social media users wrote that the sounds of shooting and explosions were heard in a number of populated areas. “In Volny Aul, we can hear submachine gun fire. It’s scary to go out,” reported user z.ov.a. “We woke up to the sounds of submachine gun fire,” wrote user kamilla_anzorovna.
According to the investigators’ version, on April 11, two armed men, when requested to surrender by law enforcers, opened fire on them, the ICRF reports in its Telegram channel. Two attackers were killed and firearms, ammunition, and grenades were found at the scene.
In Kabardino-Balkaria, the CTO legal regime was introduced for the first time since July 3, 2021.
