Awards for capture of terrorists brighten image of “Akhmat” regiment

A report on the awarding of “Akhmat” fighters for the detention of the suspects accused of committing the terror act at the Crocus City Hall looks like an attempt to artificially increase the importance of the Chechen military unit. That has been noted by military experts interviewed.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 22, armed people started shooting at the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the Moscow Region. As a result, 139 people perished. The FSB reported about the detention of eleven persons suspected of involvement in the terror act. Four of the suspects were detained in the Bryansk Region while they were trying to escape towards the border with Ukraine, the FSB reported.

“The most distinguished fighters of the ‘Akhmat-Russia’ regiment, involved in protecting the state border in the Bryansk Region, were awarded 12 medals ‘For Courage’ and 20 departmental awards of the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of the Russian Federation,” wrote Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov in his Telegram channel.

Retired Police Colonel Amir Kolov believes that the very operation to capture the terrorists was faked, but it was decided to reward everyone involved in the operation. “They already knew in advance where the Crocus attackers were going. And those who caught the suspects were given a tip on where to catch them,” Amir Kolov suggested.

At the same time, according to the retired Police Colonel, the “Akhmat” regiment is being distinguished, and the award also includes the assignment of the rank of Colonel General to Alibek Delimkhanov.

The “Akhmat” military units are effective and have good experience, in particular, in combing forest areas thanks to training, suggests military expert Alexander Khramchikhin. “That’s most likely why they were awarded. Along with the above, it was probably decided to reward all those involved in the capture of the terrorists,” the military expert noted.
