Attack on Crocus City Hall surpasses Dubrovka terror act in death toll

More people perished in the terror act at the Crocus City Hall than in the one committed in 2002 at the Dubrovka Theatre Centre; it follows from the official data on the death toll.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 22, armed men broke into the concert Crocus City Hall located near Moscow, opened automatic shooting and set the building on fire. The FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) has classified the attack as a terror act. According to preliminary data, 139 people perished.

According to official data, the Dubrovka terror act resulted in 130 deaths, including 10 children. There, among the hostages, five persons were shot dead before the storming of the building, the rest perished in the process thereof.

On October 23, 2002, a group of armed militants led by Movsar Baraev took 916 people as hostages. In exchange for the lives of them, the terrorists demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities in Chechnya and the withdrawal of federal troops from the republic. Their demands were not met. Law enforcers conducted a liberation storming, during which 130 hostages perished and more than 700 others suffered.
