Mother of Makhachkala resident demands inquiry into his death at SIZO

Shamil Sadulaev, accused of calling for terrorism, has died at the SIZO (pre-trial prison) of Makhachkala; his body had numerous signs of injuries, his mother has stated. She believes that her son died a violent death. The prosecutor's office has explained Sadulaev's death as drug use, but declared the refusal to initiate a criminal case unlawful.

The mother of Shamil Sadulaev, who died on December 8, 2023, in the SIZO of Makhachkala, has applied to the Dagestan Public Oversight Commission (POC).

"Judging by the photos of Sadulaev's corpse, there are traces and abrasions thereon," Shamil Khadulaev, the POC's deputy chairman, has stated in his Telegram channel.

Sabina Sadulaeva is sure that her son was killed. According to her story, the investigator initially said that it was a beating. But later he began claiming that he hadn't said anything like that, and Sadulaev received traumas by falling from his bed, although the video from the cell shows that he died while sitting. The prosecutor's office has claimed that he had received no serious traumas; and the preliminary death reason is "poisoning with some unknown narcotic substance."

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that relatives of Kurban Dalgatov, who died on January 20, 2023, after being taken to a police station in Makhachkala, claimed that he had died of suffocation after receiving electric shocks.
