Dagestani resident Amakhanov disagree with compensation amount for law enforcers' attack on him
The amount of 400,000 roubles awarded by the court as compensation for being beaten up by law enforcers will not even cover the treatment cost, Temirkhan Amakhanov, the suffered Derbent resident, has complained. His defence will seek payment of 5 million roubles to Amakhanov, his advocate has promised.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 8, the Derbent City Court partially satisfied Amakhanov's claim of 5 million roubles to be collected from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for causing grievous bodily harm to him.
In April 2016, two policemen broke into Amakhanov's home, and when he tried to defend himself, one of them fired a pistol. Amakhanov connected this with the fact that he had actively opposed, together with his neighbours, the construction of a high-rise building. A year later, law enforcers took him to the police station and beat him there so violently that he had to have his spleen removed.
Temirkhan has noted that after being beaten by law enforcers, his health was never restored. "I have nothing to hide: blood comes with urine ... They've ruined my life," Amakhanov has stated, adding that the building, the construction of which he had fought against, has not been demolished.
Arsen Shabanov, his advocate, has assured that the court's ruling on compensation will be appealed against. According to his story, the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) on Amakhanov's case had no effect on the Russian court's ruling.
Nadezhda Borodkina, another Amakhanov's advocate, has treated the compensation awarded by the court as "very small", taking into account the fact that Amakhanov's health was seriously harmed. According to her story, the reason for such ruling is not yet clear to the defence.
