Dagestan resident, Temirkhan Amakhanov, achieves compensation for beating by law enforcers

A court has obliged the police to pay 400,000 roubles in compensation to Temirkhan Amakhanov, a resident of Derbent, who had to have his spleen removed after being beaten up by law enforcers. Amakhanov claimed five million roubles as compensation for his moral harm; now, he intends to challenge the above sum, the "Travmunkt" legal assistance project has informed in its Telegram channel.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a court in Derbent had found the law enforcers, Gasan Adalov and Magomed Yunusov, guilty of causing grievous harm to Amakhanov's health and sentenced them to four years in prison each. In June 2023, Amakhanov himself stated that he was still experiencing health problems and was undergoing rehabilitation courses. On September 14, 2023, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) ordered Russian authorities to pay EUR 26,000 to Amakhanov, treating him as a victim of law enforcers' torture.

In April 2016, two policemen broke into Amakhanov's home and attacked him; when he tried to defend himself, one of the attackers fired his pistol. A year later, law enforcers took him to the police station and beat him up. Amakhanov tried to initiate a criminal case against these law enforcers, but only in 2019, after repeated complaints about the investigator's inaction, the policemen were charged with abuse of power.
