KBR resident convicted of treason

The Supreme Court (SC) of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) has sentenced a local resident, who had planned to take part in the special military operation (SMO) on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to six years in a penal colony.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in June 2023, it became known that Erik Konokov, a 35-year-old resident of the city of Terek, was suspected of treason. Law enforcers examined the data in his mobile phone and found his correspondence with a native of Tatarstan, who had joined the units fighting against Russian militaries on the side of Ukraine.

The SC has found that the man, having learned from social networks about a paramilitary unit operating in Ukraine as part of the AFU, intended to join the unit, but was detained.

Let us remind you that in June 2023, the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) announced the detention of a KBR resident with Ukrainian citizenship. According to law enforcers, he had provided an employee of the Ukrainian security service with some data intended for use against Russia's security.

The "Caucasian Knot" has also reported that Savely Frolov, a resident of the Moscow Region, was sentenced by a court in Vladikavkaz to six years in a penal colony on charges of treason. His criminal prosecution was justified by his correspondence on the Telegram with a mention of the unit fighting on the side of Ukraine. However, Frolov claimed that he had no plans to take part in the SMO on the side of Ukraine.
