Advocate Nemov refuses to travel to Chechnya to testify

Advocate Alexander Nemov, who was beaten in Chechnya, considered it unsafe for him to go there to testify in his case, reported Henry Reznik, the head of the lawyer’s commission. According to him, colleagues of Alexander Nemov have no illusions that the crime will be solved soon.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in July, Chechen investigators instituted a criminal case under articles on intentional causing of bodily harm in connection with an attack on Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov. On July 28, the investigators combined the cases on the attack on Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov into one case and expanded the list of articles, adding the article on obstruction of the professional activities of a journalist and an advocate.

On July 4, Elena Milashina, a journalist of the newspaper “Novaya Gazeta”, and advocate Alexander Nemov were attacked in Chechnya while they were on their way to attend a trial in Zarema Musaeva’s case. The journalist and the advocate were severely beaten.

Alexander Nemov did not go to Chechnya to testify, and the investigators did not insist on his arrival, reported Henry Reznik, the chair of the FCA (Federal Chamber of Advocates) commission for protecting the rights of advocates.

“Alexander Nemov actually has reason to fear for his life and health. That was received by the investigators with understanding,” said Henry Reznik as quoted by the “BFM.ru” portal.

Let us remind you that Elena Milashina connected the attack on her and Alexander Nemov with the case of Yasin Khalidov, a missing Chechen policeman.
