Case against four attackers on Pskov paratroopers in Chechnya sent to court

The investigation into the case of four residents of Tatarstan accused of attacking, under command of Shamil Basaev and Khattab, Pskov paratroopers in Chechnya is over.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in April 2022, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) announced the detention of six defendants in the case of the attack on Pskov paratroopers committed in 2000. All the detainees are residents of Tatarstan: Khaidar Razzakov, Airat Kamaletdinov, Eduard Valiakhmetov, Ilgam Gumerov, Ilgiz Mukhametgaliev and Mukhamedvali Shaikhutdinov. They were charged with armed rebellion, participation in a gang and encroachment on militaries' lives.

According to investigators, Gumerov, Mukhametgaliev, Razzakov and Shaikhutdinov, "as members of the armed gang led by Basaev and Khattab," took part in an attack on the military servicemen of the Pskov Division of the Airborne Forces and held fire from Kalashnikov assault rifles.

Earlier, 23 participants in the clash were sentenced to long prison terms.

Let us remind you that the 63-year-old resident of Grozny Alavdi Batykaev was also accused of attacking Pskov paratroopers in 2000. He denies his guilt. Batykaev's advocate has claimed that there were no proofs of his client's guilt; his relatives turned to human rights defenders. The testimonies of classified witnesses in Batykaev's case are contradictory and not credible, and there are no objective proofs of his guilt in the case, the "Memorial" Centre for Defence of Human Rights has stated.
